Hi, I’m Dr. Abby!
By day, I'm a microbiology researcher at Michigan State University.
By night, I'm a wedding coordinator, event planner, occasional veil-maker, timeline enthusiast, and firm believer that the tiny details matter.
I earned both my bachelor's degree and PhD in microbiology from Michigan State, but I couldn't stay away from event planning. After planning my own wedding in 2020 (yes, a pandemic wedding—yikes!), I discovered that I couldn't get enough. I started working weekends at a bridal boutique during grad school and have been helping friends celebrate their big days in just about every way imaginable.
I've talked timelines over coffee, coordinated bachelorette trips, made veils, done hair and makeup, and helped troubleshoot more than a few last-minute wedding-day problems. I've even sewn a bridesmaid into her dress after a zipper malfunction, because sometimes wedding coordination means becoming an emergency seamstress.
I truly love every part of weddings, from the big picture down to the little things most people don't even notice. And event planning seems to follow me everywhere. I've even planned a scientific conference and a symposium or two, because grad school just wasn't keeping me busy enough.
That's where Vows & Variables comes in. I get to combine two things I genuinely love: the organized, analytical problem-solving I've spent years developing as a scientist and the creativity, connection, and joy that come with bringing people together.
My goal isn't to create the most picture-perfect wedding on the internet (although we certainly want great photos!). It's to make sure you get to actually enjoy your wedding. I'll handle the timelines, vendors, logistics, and inevitable little surprises so you can be present with the people you love.
When I'm not in the lab or planning an event, you'll find me in Mid-Michigan with my husband, our two-year-old daughter, and our two dogs. It's busy, occasionally chaotic, and exactly the kind of life I love.
A little science. A lot of love. And, honestly, I love a good spreadsheet.
